Sermon Notes

True/False: Our future hope is that Christ will return, raise the dead, execute perfect justice, and establish His kingdom without end. Death does not have the final word.

“The main things are the plain things, and the plain things are the main things.” – Alistair Begg

Our Comfort in Bodily Death

“All humanity is grass, and all its goodness is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flowers fade when the breath of the Lord blows on them, indeed, the people are grass. The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever.” (Isaiah 40:6–8)

“I long to depart and be with Christ—which is far better—but to remain in the flesh is more necessary for your sake” (Phil. 1:23–24)

For we know that if our earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal dwelling in the heavens, not made with hands. Indeed, we groan in this tent, desiring to put on our heavenly dwelling, since, when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. Indeed, we groan while we are in this tent, burdened as we are, because we do not want to be unclothed but clothed, so that mortality may be swallowed up by life.” (2 Corinthians 5:1–4)

Our Comfort in Christ’s Return

Our Comfort in Resurrection

“Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, death, is your victory? Where, death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! (1 Corinthians 15:54–57)

Our Comfort in Final Judgment

And just as He appointed people to die once – and after this judgment – so also Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those waiting on Him.” (Hebrews 9:27-28)

Our Comfort in A Kingdom Without End

“3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” – Revelation 21:3-4
