Peter has a condition- (saved from penalty and power of sin) but still fights his remaining sin.
We all have blind spots and weaknesses. Peter’s were cultural.
God says for you to be effective, we need to address this issue (we all have issues – remaining sin that God wants to deal with).
The Gospel is our Foundation, Basis, and Focus!
Background of Acts 10. Prayer, God preparing the sharer and the receiver
Acts 10:34
So Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality…
Christianity is different from all of beliefs – it has no center geographically…
Jerusalem, Rome, Western Europe, US, Africa/China
-No land
-No language
-No race
Christianity is contextual. God’s heart is every tongue, tribe and nation (Revelation)
Matthew 28:19
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…
You are His witness – God is sending you!
It’s about something that really happened! Not some legend!
Acts 10:37-41
37 you yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. 39 And we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree, 40 but God raised him on the third day and made him to appear, 41 not to all the people but to us who had been chosen by God as witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
1 Corinthians 15:3-6 (Paul)
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than 500 brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.
Acts 10:36
As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ.
If Jesus got up from the dead, we might want to listen to Him!
Acts 4:12
No other way by which men might be saved
Christianity is not a religion. Jesus is Lord of ALL – and Judge of ALL!
Acts 10:42
And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that He is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead.
One day we are going to stand before Jesus and He will judge!
Acts 17:31
…because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.
In the end we are going to be compared to Jesus (perfection)
We always compare ourselves to “lesser” people.
God is going to then ask us what we did with our imperfection – did we try to save ourselves?
Did you trust in Jesus, the perfect one – did you try to be your own savior or trust Jesus?
The gospel is exclusive – not a way but THE WAY!
If God did not provide a way – it is not good news – but He did!
Acts 10:43
To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.
Our biggest need is not a new job, new car or new girlfriend or boyfriend. Our biggest need is forgiveness!
Gospel breaks down the wall of hostility and brings us into a relationship!
We caused the war – He makes the peace!
Why when we have Jesus and filled with the Holy Spirit – things are OK – peace from God – peace that passes all understanding! GOOD NEWS
But understand – When Jesus comes into your life, He comes to take over!
He’s not there to give you a little Jesus shot!
He’s going to mess with all of the things you hold onto.
