Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus,
because the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free
from the law of sin and death. – Romans 8:1-2

For what the law could not do since it was weakened by the flesh,
God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending his own Son in
the likeness of sinful flesh as a sin offering, in order that the law’s
requirement would be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to
the flesh but according to the Spirit.- Romans 8:3-4

3 Big Ideas on How We Find Freedom

1. God Himself is the Foundation for Our Freedom
   
   For what the law could not do since it was weakened by the flesh, God did. – Romans 8:3a
   
   Grace accomplishes what the law was powerless to do
   The problem with the law is not the law. The problem is us!
   
   Hebrews 7:19 (for the law perfected nothing), but a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.
   
   Romans 3:20 For no one will be justified in his sight by the works of the law, because the knowledge of sin comes through the law.
   
   Romans 5:20 The law came along to multiply the trespass. But where sin multiplied, grace multiplied even more…
   
   Romans 7:7-12 7 What should we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! But I would not have known sin if it were not for the law. For example, I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, Do not covet. 8 And sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind. For apart from the law sin is dead. 9 Once I was alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life again 10 and I died. The commandment that was meant for life resulted in death for me. 11 For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me. 12 So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and just and good.
   
2. Jesus Sacrifice Is What Accomplishes Our Freedom

   Calvin said, “This is our acquittal: the guilt that held us liable for punishment has been transferred to the head of the Son of God. We must, above all, remember his substitution, lest we tremble and remain anxious throughout life – as if God’s righteous vengeance, which the Son of God has taken on Himself, still hung over us.”
   
3. The Spirit’s Power Is What Enables Us To Live In Freedom
