The Wonder of Prayer | TueGather

“THE WONDER OF PRAYER”

“We must begin to believe that God, in the mystery of prayer, has entrusted us with a force that can move the Heavenly world, and can bring its power down to earth.“ — Andrew Murray

THE WONDER OF PRAYER

— 2 Chronicles 20:3,1

— 2 Chronicles 20:15,17

— 2 Chronicles 20:21-22

A MODEL FOR PRAYER

P _____________________________

But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!

Pray like this: “Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.“ — Matthew 6:6-10 NLT

“If we would pray aright, the first thing we should do is to see to it that we really get an audience with God, that we really get into His very presence. Before a word of petition is offered, we should have the definite consciousness that we are talking to God, and should believe that He is listening and is going to grant the thing that we ask of Him.“ — R.A. Torrey

Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy. — Proverbs 28:13

Forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. — Matthew 6:12 NLT

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. — 1 John 1:9

Jesus said, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” — Matthew 7:7

“Beware in your prayers, above everything else, of limiting God, not only by unbelief, but by fancying that you know what He can do. Expect unexpected things ‘above all that we ask or think.’“ — Andrew Murray

Y _____________________________

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. — James 4:7

“God is ready to assume full responsibility for the life wholly yielded to Him.” — Andrew Murray

“The man or woman who is wholly or joyously surrendered to Christ can’t make a wrong choice – any choice will be the right one.“ — A. W. Tozer

THE POWER OF PRAYER — TESTIMONIES

“Four things let us ever keep in mind: God hears prayer, God heeds prayer, God answers prayer, and God delivers by prayer.“ — E. M. Bounds

“The Word of God is like a lion. You don’t have to defend a lion. All you have to do is let the lion loose, and the lion will defend itself.” — Charles Spurgeon

I. TWO TYPES OF REVELATION

General Revelation: For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

Romans 1:20

Special Revelation: All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16

II. HOW DO WE KNOW THE BIBLE IS GOD’S WORD?

– Internal Evidence

– Fulfilled Prophecy

– Transformed Lives

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2 NLT “The Bible was not given for our information but for our transformation.” — Dwight Lyman Moody

III. THE WONDER OF THE WORD OF GOD

The Word of God ____________________________________ Psalm 107:20

The Word of God ____________________________________ Psalm 119:105

The Word of God ____________________________________ Proverbs 23:7

Though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 – “Strongholds are mental habit patterns of thought that are not consistent with God’s Word.” — Neil Anderson

– A stronghold is: A satanic lie. A generational mindset or a human wounding that you have listened to long enough, believed strongly enough and owned deeply enough that it has become part of your identity. It has fortified itself in you and dictates your thoughts, beliefs, actions and reactions. It is an unholy filter through which all thoughts pass. Strongholds can include feelings of shame, condemnation, unforgiveness, rejection, depression, addiction, pride, unbelief, anger and defeat.

IV. TEARING DOWN STRONGHOLDS JOSHUA 6:2-5; 15-16; 20

– Recognize the _____________________ Colossians 2:8

– Repent of any _____________________ Proverbs 28:13

– Replace the lie with _____________________ John 8:32; Philippians 4:8

Joshua 3:1-13

Crossing the Jordan Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittim and went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over. After three days the officers went throughout the camp, giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits[a] between you and the ark; do not go near it.” Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.” Joshua said to the priests, “Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on ahead of the people.” So they took it up and went ahead of them. And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses. Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the Jordan’s waters, go and stand in the river.’” Joshua said to the Israelites, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God. This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites. See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you. Now then, choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord—the Lord of all the earth—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.”
