Proverbs 22:7

The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is a slave of the lender

Warning Signs You Are In Debt Trouble…

-I don’t know how much I owe

-I pay the minimum on my credit cards

-I miss payments or bounce checks

-I use credit card debt to pay for my basic “needs”

-My debt seems to be increasing

-I’m robbing God

Bad Debt… Results from choosing to spend more than I make

Holes That Will Sink Your Financial Ship

  1. Lack of Contentment

Proverbs 21:17

Whoever loves pleasure will be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil will not be rich.

Philippians 4:11-13

11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Biblical Contentment… means that through Christ Jesus, you have the strength to cope with whatever circumstance you find yourself in.

  • Impulse Buying and Its Cousin “Get Rich Quick”

Proverbs 21:5

The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.

Proverbs 14:15

The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.

  • Pretending

Proverbs 12:9

Better to be lowly and have a servant than to play the great man and lack bread.

-Marriage
-College 

How To Plug The Holes:

  1. Trust God With Your Finances

Matthew 6:31-33

31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

“Spiritual Issue”… Am I willing to accept this current situation even if it is not somewhere I want to be right now?

  • Practice Generosity Even When You Are In Debt

Proverbs 11:25

Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.

  • Work Harder or Longer

Proverbs 10:4

A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

  • Pay Off The MAXIMUM You Can, Not The MINIMUM You Must

Its not about being out of debt, its about being free to follow our Lord Jesus Christ wherever He leads me!
