Relentless Week Two

Belt of Truth – Ephesians 6:14a

Review:

Ephesians 6:12-14a

Putting on the armor is a metaphor for putting on Christ (Romans 13:14). And Paul breaks down the attributes of Christ we are to put on. 

Today: Belt Of Truth

For the Soldier, PHYSICALLY… the BELT helped to hold the weapons in place and allowed the long garment to be girded up so that the soldier could move more efficiently (fight better!)

SPIRITUALLY the significance of TRUTH.  Walk through what truth is and means for the believer.

1. God is TRUTH

This is foundational.  We live in a world that wants to deny truth, but God is Truth.  God is truth because it is His nature.  He is the only eternal being. He created and established truth. 

TRUTH PROCEEDS FROM HIS NATURE.

Hebrews 6:18 says it’s impossible for God to lie.  Part of His moral attributes is that He is IMMUTABLE – Cannot change and SIMPLICITY – He cannot be partly anything, cannot be partly true!

The reason the world (which Satan is behind) wants to refute truth is because… 

Absolute Truth means that there is a standard. 

RIGHT vs WRONG (sin). 

Relative Truth means there is no absolute standard. 

Your RIGHT vs My RIGHT (no sin, no conviction).

God is truth, Satan is a liar – John 8:44 “liar and the Father of lies” and has been since the beginning!  Best schemes, “partial truths”

Genesis 3:1-5

So God is TRUTH, and Satan is a LIAR

• If God is Truth, then HIS WORD IS TRUTH

2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is breathed out by God”

Remember, God is Truth. He cannot be partially true, so His words must be Completely TRUE!

Miracle of Scripture:  66 books, 3 continents, 3 languages, over 1500 years, and 40 authors – one message – God revealing Himself and His redemptive plan to man (points to Jesus – the Savior!). POWER TO CHANGE LIVES!

– We don’t treat the Bible as a buffet. 

– We don’t follow God based on feelings but on truth

In John 14:17, God gives us the Spirit of Truth (HS) to help us understand the Bible (TRUTH)   

So God’s Word is Truth, and Satan’s words are lies because he is a liar!

• If His Word is Truth, the JESUS IS TRUTH

All of scripture points us to the Savior.  Over 300 prophesies in the OT were fulfilled in Christ Jesus!

The gospel!

Truth points us to Jesus, who is Truth.  Satan is a liar and wants to point us away from the TRUTH.

• If Jesus is Truth, then we should WALK IN TRUTH

Ephesians 5:15-17

Satan, who is a liar, wants us to walk in foolishness, not truth!  Back to Genesis 3 – That’s exactly what Satan was doing there – You’d be foolish to follow God!
