Mark 10:41-44
Jesus shared a new way of thinking, a right way, or correct way that was completely foreign even to those who had spent so much time with Jesus!
Getting My Act Together on Service
• Our Position
It’s not about position or recognition, it’s about doing the little things that further the kingdom and impact people’s live, ultimately bringing God glory!
Mark 9:35
“If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.”
• Our Heart…
Our heart should be the same as Jesus’ heart.
Matthew 20:28 says, “…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Sacrifice and Convenience
Paul understood this concept and lived it out.
1 Corinthians 9:19-22
“Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. 22To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.
We serve all so that people can understand and see the love of Christ in our service!
We serve so that people will be saved!
We also serve because when we serve we are more like Jesus.
Our heart should be the same as Jesus heart.
A Servant of all.
• Our Purpose…
Ephesians 2:10
For we are God’s workmanship (poiema “masterpiece”), created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. We don’t do good works for God. We allow God to do good works through us.
Philippians 2:13
“for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose (pleasure).”
As a follower of Jesus Christ, we were created to serve. When we allow God to work through us and we serve others, God finds pleasure.
Pastor Matt Surber reminds us of the importance of spending quality time with God as we grow in our relationship with Him.
