God created marriage to meet a need for our companionship and to provide a picture of our relationship with him.
Lies The World Tells Us About Marriage…
Lie #1 – They Are Perfect For Me
Isaiah 53:6
Lie #2 – We Will Live Happily Ever After
Your spouse is not able to meet all of your needs.
“What can I get out of this marriage” vs. “What can I give”
Only Jesus can meet all the needs of your life.
“Rejoice in the Lord always and I’ll say it again rejoice.” Philippians 4:4
Lie #3 – Love At First Sight
False assumption: love is a feeling.
Feelings Do Not Produce Love. Love Produces Feelings.
“But I have this against you, that you have abandoned (left) the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do what you did at first.” – Revelation 2:4-5
Notice it doesn’t say you lose your love; you consciously decide to abandon or leave your love.
Love Is A Commitment. Love Is A Decision.
Lie #4 – If It Doesn’t Work Out, I Can Trade Them In On A New One
Matthew 19:6
Matthew 19:9
Lie #5 – Marriage Problems Are Easy To Fix
Psalm 1:1
Here Is The Truth: There Are No Simple Answers To Marriage Problems.
1 Peter 3:7
