Joy // Fruit of the Spirit

Series - Fruit of the Spirit
Scriptures - John 16:20–24
Presenter - Pastor Matt Surber
Date - June 15, 2025

This week, we continue our summer series on the Fruit of the Spirit with a message on JOY — a fruit that feels more rare than ever in today’s world. From John 16:20–24, we discover that true joy isn’t found in perfect circumstances or fleeting feelings — it’s found through the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus promises that our sorrow can turn into joy — not by ignoring the pain, but by walking with Him through it. Joy is the natural result of a Spirit-filled life, and it grows even in broken places.

Sermon Notes

  1. JOY IS OFTEN BORN IN THE SAME PLACE AS SORROW
  2. JOY IS NOT BASED ON CIRCUMSTANCES—IT’S BASED ON THE PRESENCE OF GOD
  3. JOY COMES FROM WALKING IN THE SPIRIT

SPIRITUAL SYSTEM CHECK: HOW’S YOUR JOY?

  • Do I get over hurts quickly, or do I stew on them?
  • Can I find things in my life to rejoice in daily?
  • Am I usually optimistic?
  • Am I looking more for happiness in the world than joy in the Lord?

And the truth is, kindness isn’t natural — it’s supernatural. It comes from walking with the Holy Spirit.
